The ATP Tour’s New Haven stop is headed south. On Monday, tour officials announced the sale of the designation to a group called Winston-Salem Professional Tennis, which will shift the U.S. Open Series event to the campus of Wake Forest University
in North Carolina. Plans call for a newly designed, state-of-the-art facility that will boast 10 to 12 DecoTurf courts, including center-court seating for a minimum of 3,500 fans.
“We’re thrilled about the ATP’s new home at Wake Forest,” said ATP chief Adam Helfant.
Local corporate partners who have signed as initial presenting sponsors include BB&T Bank, Hanes Brands and the Flow Companies, which oversees Winston-Salem Professional Tennis.
The event, featuring a $625,000 purse, is scheduled for Aug. 21-27, 2011, with qualifying set for Aug. 19-20. The tournament remains the final U.S. Open Series men’s event, and will be nationally televised on The Tennis Channel and ESPN2. The singles final is expected to be carried by CBS on Aug. 27.
