Bob and Mike Bryan are once again taking the lead of friend and inspiration Andre Agassi by hosting the Bryan Brothers’ Grand Slam Jam at the Malibu RC on Oct. 23.
The day will benefit the Bryan Bros. Foundation and the Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program. Founded in ‘84, the program was named in memory of the late record and film producer, Neil Bogart, who died of lymphoma at the age of 39.
“It’s true, we were inspired by Andre,” said Mike Bryan. “He’s a great example for young Americans to start your own foundation. We do a couple events each year for unprivileged kids.”
Added Bob: “We’re honored this year to be helping not only kids in Ventura County but also to be assisting the Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program. We have heard nothing but great things about the work that the people at Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research are doing. Music execs Bill Vuylsteke and Jonathan McHugh were the first to tell us about this wonderful program that they have supported through the years and now we have even made monetary contributions to help their work to battle cancer in young children and we want to do this event to raise even more funds so they can continue their mission.”
This year’s event will feature many of the twins’ friends and celebrities from the tennis world with special appearances expected by fellow Southern Californians and top Americans Sam Querrey, Mardy Fish, this year’s reigning Wimbledon and U.S. Open doubles champ Vania King and retired three-time Grand Slam titlist Lindsay Davenport.
Former ATP touring pros Rick Leach, Scott Davis, Jeff Tarango, Vince Spadea and Derek Rostagno will all take part in the pro-am.
“We’re looking forward to a great day of tennis with the Bryan twins and friends,” said Malibu RC GM Trey Waltke. “We want to invite the public, as well as our club members, to spend the day at the club and enjoy the tennis for such worthy causes.”
The day will include a round-robin doubles tournament in the morning, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The afternoon events include a clinic with the pros, a pro-am match and exhibition and live auction.
Court 7 at the club will be transformed into a stadium court. An all-day guest pass is $200 with spectators given the option to buy a $25 lunch wristband. To just watch the morning round-robin doubles action is $75. To participate in the round robin doubles event the cost is $300 and $450 to play in the doubles event and an all-day spectator pass.
The Bryan Bros. Foundation, a non-profit 501c3 organization, is dedicated to helping support and grow the dreams of children in Ventura County and around the world. The Foundation’s mission is to identify and support charities and causes that help at-risk youth survive and thrive.
Songwriter Carole Bayer Sager and Neil Bogart’s widow, Joyce Bogart Trabulus, cited Neil’s love of children and his resolve that one person could make a difference as their inspiration for forming the Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program.
