One of the glories of tennis is that it has three prime surfaces: hard, clay and grass. Now, for one weekend, players in the Coachella Valley Grand Slam Grand Prix Tennis Tournament will incredibly play on all three in one tournamen
t.
The event at the beautiful Mission Hills Country Club will be held April 30-May 2. Doubles events include men’s, women’s and mixed in the 3.0-5.0 NTRP divisions, and two 60+ divisions — one for 4.5 and above, and one for 4.0 and below, as well as a mixed doubles 10.0 combo division. There will also be an Open singles hard-court tournament held simultaneously with the multi-surface doubles event for a prize package to be determined.
“We were able to come up with a format that people can enter the tournament and play on all three surfaces as long as we have eight teams per draw,” said tournament director Michael Bailin.
Playing in this year’s Grand Prix will earn players points towards being invited to the Grand Prix Masters in ’11.
