ALL-AMERICAN GIRLS: The women’s final wasn’t the only all-American affair at this year’s US Open. The junior girls final also featured a pair of heralded young Americans, with 16-year-old Amanda Anisimova – this year’s French Open Wild Card Challenge winner and last year’s French Open junior girls finalist – dispatching Cori “Coco” Gauff 6-0, 6-2 to claim the title. The match was tougher than the scoreline suggests, with Anisimova requiring almost as many match points – 10 – as games to take the title. Afterward, Anisimova – who has already made inroads on the pro tour, with a world ranking of No. 182 – was clear about her long-term career goals. “I want to be No. 1 and win every Grand Slam,” she said, adding that the US Open is the one she most wants for the record books. As for Gauff, reaching the final of a junior Slam at the grand old age of 13, the sky really does seem the limit.

THE HINGIS TOUCH – 25 AND COUNTING: Twenty years ago, Martina Hingis won the US Open women’s title, defeating Venus Williams in the final. Today, Hingis continues to add Slam titles to her resume. At the US Open, she won the mixed doubles with Jamie Murray and the women’s doubles with Yung-Jan Chan, bringing her total number of Slam titles to 25( five singles, 13 women’s doubles and seven mixed doubles). Though Hingis and Murray are undefeated as a mixed doubles team with two Slams to their name, they haven’t yet committed to continuing to play together. “If I play [mixed doubles], then definitely we will,” said Hingis. “It’s a long way to go ‘til next year.”

QUOTEBOOK:

“Sometimes you need to lose [a set or several games] or you need to see things are not going well to take the position, ‘Hey, maybe I change on this one.’” – Rafa Nadal

“The hug. That is what we will remember about the 2017 US Open women’s final.” – Alyssa Roenigk, ESPN

“I don’t think there is any other word to describe it than ‘amazing’ for me and Maddie. Obviously with Venus, she’s represented the game so well as an African-American woman. Maddie and I are here to join her and represent just as well as Venus has in the past.” – Sloane Stephens

“I think she [Sloane Stephens] played well. I don’t think I played great. I think that’s kind of a combination for a disaster for me.” – Madison Keys

“Yeah, of course, I would 1,000% go [to Sloane Stephens’ US Open victory celebration]. She can buy me drinks – all of the drinks.” – Madison Keys

“There are no words to describe how I got here, the process it took or anything like that, because if you told anyone this story, they’d be like, ‘That’s insane.’” – Sloane Stephens

“I’m going to totally put this in my bio, US Open champion. I think when anyone has a Grand Slam champion in front of their name, it changes things a little bit.” – Sloane Stephens
