Serena Williams is engaged to be married. The groom to be is Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and appropriately, Serena made the announcement through a Reddit post on the popular link-sharing site’s “r/isaidyes” forum:
“I came home. A little late. Someone had a bag packed for me. And a carriage waited. Destination: Rome. To escort me to my very own ‘charming.’ Back to where our stars first collided. And now it was full circle. At the same table we first met by chance. But by choice. Down on knee. He said 4 words. And I said yes.”
Serena and the Brooklyn-born, San Francisco-based Ohanian have been dating for a little over a year. In fact Serena was likely with the 6’5″ internet entrepreneur when she famously apprehended a thief who tried to steal her cell phone in SF’s Mission district last December. The influence of Ohanian – whose motto is “making the world suck less” – might also be at play in Serena’s guest editorship at the Bay Area-based Wired magazine last November.
In the past Serena has been linked with musicians (Common, Drake) and fellow athletes (Lavar Arrington, Grigor Dimitrov) and also her coach Patrick Mouratoglou. The Reddit announcement of Serena’s and Ohanian’s engagement featured an illustration by Ohanian of Snoo, the site’s mascot (created by Ohanian) on bended knee with a huge diamond in his left hand, proposing to a female Snoo that resembles Serena. The headline, “Future Mrs. Kn0thing,” refers to Ohanian’s handle of Kn0thing on the site.
