Eleven different nations are represented among the top 11 spots, and 30 different countries among the top 60.

Francesca Schiavone becomes the first Italian to break into the top five, while Australian Oipen champ Kim Clijsters of Belgium ascends to No. 2 for the first time since 2006. After making history in Melbourne, AO runner-up Li Na becomes the first Chinese player to ascend to No.7.
