Serena Williams was limited to just six tournaments in 2010, but the 13-time Slam champ is already lining up events for 2011. Williams, along with Maria Sharapova and Sam Stosur, have committed to play the Bank of the West Classic, July 25-31 at Stanford’s Taube Family Stadium.
The Bank of the West Classic, a Premier-level event, is now in its 41st year and features a 30-player singles draw as well as a 16-team doubles draw. The event is owned and operated by IMG and serves as the opening U.S. Open Series event.
The list of past champions of the event reads like a Who’s Who of women’s tennis, including Lindsay Davenport, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Andrea Jaeger, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters.
