Nideffer, Greenwald Claim 40s National Hard Courts
San Diego’s Ros Nideffer carted off matching gold balls for winning the USTA 40s National Hard Court Championships in singles and in doubles partnered with another local fan favorite, Gretchen Magers. Jeff Greenwald (Corte Madera) defeated ‘08 finalist Peter Smith (Los Alamitos) 6-4, 6-1. Smith/Jeff Tarango slipped by Arthur Hernandez (Huntington Beach)/Carsten Hoffman (Newport Beach) 7-6, 6-1.
Another local, Patricia Tarabini of Carlsbad, was in the winner’s circle. She teamed with Tarango for the 40s mixed title. Father-Son champs for the third year in a row were Brian Joelson/Brett Joelson, who beat Rick Kepler/Paul Kepler in 6-1, 6-0. The Grandfather-Grandson event saw Joseph Cowley/ Matthew Cowley defeat Paul Kepler/Jordan Kepler 6-1, 7-5. The event was hosted by the La Jolla Beach & TC.
LJB&TC Welcomes 121st Pac Coast Doubles
Whose names will be added to the perpetual trophy for winning the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championships at the beachside La Jolla Beach & TC March 4-7? The ‘10 winners will have their names engraved alongside tennis greats like Bobby Riggs, Jack Kramer, Pancho Gonzalez, Pancho Segura, Stan Smith and Dennis Ralston. The public is invited to watch some of the best NCAA teams in action, including Rice, Texas A&M, Stanford, UCLA, Cal, USC and Pepperdine. Teaching pros and top local juniors also participate.

USTA Adult League Accepting Team Registration
Looking to get involved with the largest rec league in the nation — the USTA Adult League? The San Diego County team registration deadline is March 17. Divisions offered are 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0 NTRP skill levels. A minimum of casino pa natet eight players (five for the 2.5 and 5.0) must be registered online by that date for the team to be scheduled.
Fifty percent of the computer rated players must have an “at-level” NTRP rating. The season begins as early as April 15 and runs through June 30. Women play on weekday mornings, and men play on Sunday mornings. The format is two singles and three doubles, except at the 2.5 and 5.0 levels, where it’s one singles and two doubles. PTR Comes to La Jolla Beach & TC Mar. 8-10
The PTR will host a weekend conference Mar. 8-10 at the La Jolla Beach & TC. The event will focus on the challenges and opportunities for club owners, managers and tennis directors to optimize their business.
