Breakers Finalize Roster, Retain Delgado

WorldTeamTennis has its stars but the so-called regular roster players can grab as many cheers. Ramon Delgado is a shining example. The 32-year-old has seen his best days on the ATP Tour behind him, but when he takes the court for the Newport Beach Breakers this summer, he’ll get plenty of support.

Delgado has been with the Breakers since the beginning and was a member of its ‘04 championship team. It was a no-brainer for the Breakers to protect his slot during the recent player draft.

The Breakers also protected hometown favorite Kaes Van’t Hof, USC alum and son of former pro Robert. Julie Ditty, the all-time win leader on the USTA Pro Circuit, and Canadian Marie-Eve Pelletier will also join the team backing up marquee player Maria Sharapova.

“Ramon is very important to the team. He gets the fans going,” said Breakers’ spokesman Joey Seymour. “Kaes is developing along the same line. He’s from Newport Beach and everybody online casino knows mobile casino him.”

Sharapova will play her lone home match on July 22. The Breakers will play 14 matches (seven at home) during the season, which online casino runs July 2-22. Andre Agassi, John McEnroe and Michael Chang will be among the visiting pros at Breakers stadium this season. For tickets, call 714 352-6301.

Irvine Teams Finish Second

The UC Irvine men’s and women’s teams finished second in their respective Big West Conference Championships, contested last month at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The men’s team was upended by UC Santa Barbara 4-2 in the championship match. Santa Barbara won two doubles matches to clinch the doubles point. UCI’s Khunpol Issara downed former OC junior Scott Hohenstein in straight sets while Oscar Fabian Matthews beat Josh Finkelstein in three sets to gain the Anteaters their only points. Mathieu Forget (son of former French Davis Cupper Guy Forget), Alex Konigsfeld and Max Taylor showed Santa Barbara’s depth in singles taking out their opponents in straight sets.

The women’s story was similar. The Lady Anteaters finished second at the Big West for the second straight season losing to nemesis Long Beach State 4-1.
