Who says there’s no cure for the summertime blues? Juniors looking for an opportunity to play team events this summer need look no further than the USTA NorCal calendar.
Among the scheduled events are a trio of national team tournaments, which offer a chance to travel and compete against other USTA sections while earning all-important ranking points (this is the first year NorCal will award national points for zonal play). The Level II 12s Zone Team Championships (Tucson, Ariz.), 14s Zone Team Championships (Air Force Academy, Colo.) and 16s Zone Team Championships (Salt Lake City, Utah) are all scheduled for July 29-Aug. 2.
Also on the schedule is NorCal Junior Team Tennis, a six- to eight-week program that runs from June through August. Boys and girls ages eight to 18 will team with kids of their age and ability and compete against other area teams, with a chance to qualify for the Section Championships and the Gar Glenney Cup.
So why give in to the dog days of summer when you can make new friends, travel to new destinations, experience on-court coaching and – best of all — thrive in a team atmosphere? For info, visit www.norcal.usta.com.
